Summary

Hear from Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, Ashley Harris, Priscilla Camacho and Natalie Griffith on what nonprofits and board members can and can't do to advocate for a cause. Many will be surprised about how much we can do to support positive policies at the local, county and state level.

Description

POSTPONED to 2023

Yes, you can advocate!

Nonprofit leaders and boards can address the many myths that keep us from engaging with supporting policies at the local, county and state level. Myths such as:

· We can’t talk about a proposed policy, so we just must stay silent when asked.
· If we talk to politicians about meaningful change, we will lose our nonprofit status.
· The IRS forbids communication on policies or how to improve decisions made by politicians

We put together a panel of experts to address common misunderstanding about advocacy and we will spend a good amount of time to answer your questions.

Featuring discussion moderated by Elaine Ayala:

  • Sen. Leticia Van de Putte - San Antonio native, community leader and former State Senator, representing District 26.

  • Ashley Harris - Director of Government Relations, USAA

  • Priscilla Camacho - Chief Legislative, Industry, & External Relations Officer at Alamo Colleges

  • Natalie Griffith, President and CEO, Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio
